Discussion & Documentation

Johann [Jakob] Arends [sic] and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 July 1767. Johann Jakob Arndt is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 8 along with his new wife Elisabeth and her children (Andreas, age 14; Christoph, age 12; Louisa, age 8) [surname Horn].

In 1796, Abraham Arndt moved from Jost to Warenburg.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann [Jakob] Arndt was a cobbler from the German village of Ziegenhain. The 1767 census records that Johann Jakob Arndt was a farmer from the German village of Ziegeser [?] in the Brandenburg region.
