Johann Jakob Ganser, a tailor (Schneider), his wife Maria, and son Ernst (age 12) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Jager under the command of Skipper Gabriel Wild.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Laub on 12 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 16 along with his new wife Maria Katharina and her son Wilhelm Karl Graf (age 12).
The 1767 census records that Johann Jakob Ganser came from the German village of Colmar in the Elsass region.
There are no known surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
