Moritz Schreuvogel was born in approximately 1784. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Herzog.

He is recorded on the 1834 census of Herzog in Household No. 86 along with a note that he moved to the colony of Wittmann in 1825. He is recorded on the 1834 census of Wittmann in Household No. 1.

Spelling variations of this surname include Schreivogel and Schreibvogel.
