Johann Michael Schneider, a farmer, his wife Anna Margaretha, and children (Maria Magdalena, age 9; Johann Philipp, age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 August 1766 aboard the Russian galliot named Citadel under the command of Midshipman Gregory Bukharin.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Schwab on 12 September 1767. Johann Michael Schneider is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 27 along with a new wife Elisabeth (age 20) and two children (Anna Maria, age 11; Johann Michael, age 9). These two children, whose surname is not recorded, do not appear to be either his or his new wife's (as she is too young).
The 1767 census records that Johann Michael Schneider came from the German village of Krumbach in the Erbach region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schneider family among the Volga German colonies.
