Johann Schmudy, his wife Sophia, and children (Dorothea, age 4; Karolina, age 1¼) arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Tarlyk on 5 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 36.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schmudy was a farmer from the German region of Danzig. The 1767 census records that he was a mason (Maurer) from the German region of Danzig.
There are no known male descendants of this Schmudy family among the Volga German colonies.
