Discussion & Documentation

Johann Nuss and his wife Ursula arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.

Johann Nuss [without his wife] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johann [Georg] Nuss, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Ursula [Wahl] are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Kaneau (No. 15) along with a note that they relocated to the Volga German colony of Wittmann in 1768.

They are recorded there on the 1798 census in Household No. Wm30.

Georg Nuss died in Wittmann in 1822.

The 1767 census records that Johann [Georg] Nuss came from the German village of Lauda.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
