Discussion & Documentation

Johann Deckert, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Martin, age 11; Katharina, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Johann Teucker [sic], his wife Anna Maria, and children (Pet. Joh. Martin [age not recorded]; Catrina [age not recorded]) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Widower Johann Deckert and the children are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya (No. 57). They settled in the Volga German colony of Hockerberg.

In 1769, Wilhelm Deckert and his family moved from Hockerberg to Hummel.

In 1780, Martin Deckert moved from Hockerberg to Zürich.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Decker came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Elzhausen in the Hessen region.
