Discussion & Documentation

Heinrich Nitzel [sic], a gardner (Gärtner), and his wife Anna settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 127 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Nieder-Monjou in 1768.

It is believed that the Heinrich Netz [sic] recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou belongs to this family. The death of Heinrich Netz in 1806 is recorded on the 1811 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 51. There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies after 1806.

The 1767 census records that Heinrich Nitzel came from the German village of Halberstadt.
