Johann [Simon] Baumann, a farmer, his wife Maria, and son Jakob [Benedict] (age 1½) arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 27.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Simon Baumann came from the German town of Lübeck.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Baumann family among the Volga German colonies.
