Heinrich Dietrich, a stocking weaver (Strumpfwerker), and his wife Maria Dorothea are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 50 along with stepchildren Sophia Müller (age 13) and Johann Müller (age 12). They had settled there on 5 September 1767.

The 1767 census records that Heinrich Dietrich came from the German village of Elmshorn in the Holstein region.
