Two Diehl families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Catharina Eleonora under the command of Skipper Peter Rehder. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs additional research.
(1) Johannes Diehl, son of Johann Heinrich Diehl & Anna Katharina Appel (born 15 November 1696) from Dauernheim, was born in 1729 in Utphe. He married in Utphe on 5 July 1754 to Anna Catharina Orth. She had been born in Utphe on 22 February 1734.
The births of 4 children are recorded in Utphe: (1) Johann Conrad, born 6 September 1754; (2) Johannes, born 7 May 1757, died 7 October 1763; (3) Catharina, born 14 May 1760; and (4) Johann Heinrich, born 26 January 1765. [This family is noted as being Catholic even though the rest of the village of Utphe was Lutheran.]
Johann Diehl, a farmer, his wife Katharina, children (Johann, age 12; Katharina, age 8), and father-in-law Johann [surname not recorded] arrived in Oranienbaum.
Johannes Diehl, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and children (Konrad, age 16; Katharina, age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Semenovka in Household No. 9. They had settled there on 24 July 1767.
Son Konrad Diehl and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Semenovka in Household No. Se11.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Diehl came from the German region of Laubach. The 1767 census records that Johannes Diehl came from the German village of Upsch [sic] in the Kurmainz region.
(2) Konrad Diehl, his wife Maria, and his sister Maria (age 30) arrived in Oranienbaum.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Köhler on 10 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Konrad Diehl was a baker while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.
