Discussion & Documentation

Johann Franz Dreise [sic], a tailor (Schneider), his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Nikolaus, age 11; Anna Katharina, age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stephan in Household No. 9. They had settled there on 24 August 1767.

Johann Franz Treise and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp30.

Johann Franz Treise from Stephan and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

Johann Christian Treise from Stephan and his family relocated to the daughter colony of Wiesenmüller in about 1865.

The 1767 census records that Johann Franz Dreise came from the German region of Frankfurt am Main.

This surname has many spellings, but it seems that Treise is the most accurate based upon Stephan parish records.
