Discussion & Documentation

Johann Konrad Schulz, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and daughter Maria Henrietta (age 13) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 August 1766 aboard the ship named Nordstern (North Star) under the command of Skipper Detlev Behling.

Johann Conrad Schultze [sic], his wife Anna Catrina, and daughter Christina Henriette (age 13) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Johann Conrad died en route.

Anna Katharina Schulz, widow of Johann Heinrich [sic] Schulz (a beer brewer (Bierbrauer) who had died during the journey from Oranienbaum to Saratov under the command of Oberlieutenant Dittmar), and his daughter Henrietta (age 15) are recorded on the 1767 census of Lauwe in Household No. 54. They had settled there on 5 September 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Konrad Schulz came from the German region of Preußen (Prussia). The 1767 census records that Anna Katharina Schulz came from the German village of Goldberg in the region of Preußen (Prussia).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schulz family among the Volga German colonies.
