Discussion & Documentation

Heinrich März, a coppersmith (Kupferschmied), and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Drei Gebrüder (Three Brothers) under the command of Skipper Ludwig Münzenberg.

Heinrich März (age 57), a farmer, and his wife Katharina (age 52) are recorded on the 1767 census of Lauwe in Household No. 43. They had settled there on 5 September 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich März came from the German region of Nürnberg.  The 1767 census records that Heinrich März came from the German village of Fürth in the Ansbach region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this März family among the Volga German colonies.
