Andreas Hess, a single weaver, arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 17 July 1766 aboard a pink named Lev (Lion) under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.
Andreas Hess, his wife Maria Elisabeth, and children (Anna Dorothea, age 6½; Maria Elisabeth, age 4; Johann Konrad, age ¾) are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 89.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Hess came from the German region of Gerzen [perhaps Gersfeld].
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hess family among the Volga German colonies.
