Discussion & Documentation

Johann Daniel Lenk, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 17 July 1766 aboard the pink named Lev (Lion) under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.

Johann Lenk is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Because he arrived with other families who settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm, Johann Daniel Lenk is believed to be the same as Philipp Lenk who is recorded in Grimm on the 1775 census in Household No. 84.

Philipp Lenk and his wife Maria Katharina are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 84.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Daniel Lenk came from the German region of Hessen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Lenk family among the Volga German colonies.
