Johann Schmidt and his wife Maria arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hans Karholm. Traveling with them was the widow Maria Schmidt. Widow Maria Schmidt's relationship to Johann Schmidt is not recorded, but she is presumed to be related to him [could be his mother? or his sister? or his sister-in-law?].
Johann Schmidt and his wife Maria are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with the widow Maria Schmidt and a note that widow Maria Schmidt died in route.
It is not known in which colony they settled.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
