Discussion & Documentation

Christoph Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck.

Christopher Schmidt, his [new] wife Elisabeth, and [step-]son Johann Friedrich [surname not recorded] (age 5½) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christoph Schmidt came from the German region of Mecklenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
