Discussion & Documentation

Widow Margaretha Herle and her children (Peter, age 12; Barbara, age 10¼; Eva, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Eva Maria under the command of Skipper Franz Christopher Schröder.

The Herle family does not appear on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with other families with which they arrived in Oranienbaum. It is probable that they never made it to the Volga German colonies.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Herle family among the Volga German colonies.
