Discussion & Documentation

Johann Kuhlmann, a joiner (Tischler), his wife Katharina, and son Lorenz (age ½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a barque named Fortitudo (Fortitude) under the command of Skipper John Scott.

Widow Catharina Kohlman [sic] and son Lorentz (age ½) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Lorentz died in route.

It is not known in which colony the Widow Katharina Kuhlmann settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Kuhlmann came from the German region of Hessen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Kuhlmann among the Volga German colonies.
