Discussion & Documentation

Mattias Lütger, a farmer, and his wife Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Neptunus under the command of Skipper Johann Graap along with his sister-in-law Susanna [widow of Andreas Wilberger] and her son Jakob [Wilberger] (age 3).

It is believed that his widow Maria Barbara (age 23) is recorded as the new wife of Jakob Konrad on the 1767 census of Semenovka in Household No. 27. Her sister Susanna (age 28) is recorded there as the new wife of Peter Breitinger on the 1767 census of Semenovka in Household No. 29 along with her son Jakob [Wilberger] (age 5). [See Konrad and Wilberger Families.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Mattias Lütger came from the German region of the Pfalz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Lütger family among the Volga German colonies.
