Discussion & Documentation

Widower Johann Georg Eck, a knife maker (Messerschmied), and his son Johann Georg (age 10¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Diana under the command of Skipper Markus Draguhn.

Widower Johann Georg Eck and his son Johann (age 10) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Johann Georg Eck died en route.

It is not known in which colony the orphaned Johann Georg Eck settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Georg Eck came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Eck family among the Volga German colonies.
