Discussion & Documentation

Jurgen Jansen, a farmer, his wife Christina, and daughters (Katharina, age 13; Elisabeth, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Diana under the command of Skipper Markus Draguhn.

Johann Georg Jansen, his wife Christiana, and daughter Cathrina (age 12) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that daughter Cathrina died en route.

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jurgen Jansen came from the German region of Holstein.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Jansen family among the Volga German colonies.
