Discussion & Documentation

Widow Maria Schmidt, a farmer's wife, and her son Johann Wilhelm (age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 August 1766 aboard a ship named Кир Иоанн (Cyrus John) under the command of Midshipman Gavriil Poddubskii.

Widow Anna Maria Schmid and her son Johann Wilhelm (age 2½) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that son Johann Wilhelm died en route.

It is not known in which colony the Widow Anna Maria Schmidt settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Maria Schmidt came from the German region of Riedesel.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
