Discussion & Documentation

Marx Seitz, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and children (Klaus, age 17¼; Anna, age 2) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 May 1766 aboard a galliot named Adler (Eagle) under the command of the Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.

Maris Sest [sic], his unnamed wife, and unnamed child are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Marx Seitz came from the German region of Holstein.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Seitz family among the Volga German colonies.
