Discussion & Documentation

Johann Nigengast [sic], a mason (Maurer), and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.

Johann Nagengast is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony he settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Nigengast [sic] came from the German region of Bamberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Nagengast family among the Volga German colonies.
