Dinges, Georg

Georg Dinges, son of Heinrich Dinges, was born 30 November 1891 in Blumenfeld. He married Emma Schlotthauer. He was educated at the University of Moscow, graduating in 1917 with a Ph.D. The title of his thesis was "The Russian Influence on the Dialects of the German Colonists in the Samara and Saratov Provinces." He was a linguist, ethnologist, and professor. He participated in the official organization of the Autonomous Volga German Republic, and in November 1918 took a position at the University of Saratov where he served in a variety of positions.

Zottmann, Franz Xavier Aloysius

Father Zottmann was born 27 June 1826 in Ornbau, Bavaria. He studied philology and theology at Würzburg, Munich, and Eichstadt. He became a private teacher in St. Petersburg from 1853 to 1858, when he moved to Saratov. He studied at the Catholic Seminary there and was ordained 29 June 1860. He served in a variety of capacities in the Catholic Church in Saratov.

Schönberger, Andreas

Father Andreas Schönberger, son of Johannes Schönberger, was born in Seelmann in 1885. He graduated from the Catholic Seminary in Saratov and was ordained in 1906. He served the parishes of Rothammel (1914-1917), Husaren (1917-1928), Semenovka (1928-1930). He was arrested on 10 March 1930 along with other Catholic priests accused of plotting against the government. Following a series of trials he was executed on 3 November 1937.

Zerr, Anton Johann von Padua

Father Zerr was born 10 March 1849 in Franzfeld in the Kherson District of South Russia. He completed seminary training at the Catholic Seminary in Saratov and was ordained 11 March 1872. He served the parish in Preuss from 1872 to 1877 and was appointed Dean of the Northern District of the Wiesenseite colonies in 1878 while he served the Catholic parish in Katharinenstadt. He also taught at the seminary.

Hatzenböller, Michael

Father Michael Hatzenböller (some records spell the name Hatzenbühler) was born 26 September 1878 in Neu-Baden (today: Gudewitsch) in the Odessa District.

He studied theology at the Catholic Theological Seminary in Saratov and was ordained on 25 April 1904.

He served the parish in Ober-Monjou from 28 July 1905 to 1907. The remainder of his career was spent serving parishes in the Odessa District.

Beilmann, Johannes (b.1878)

Father Beilmann was born in Volmer in 1878. He graduated from the Saratov Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1897. He served the parishes in Ober-Monjou from 22 January 1901 to 1909 and in Katharinenstadt in 1909 before going to Rosental in Crimea and Rozhdestvenskoye in the Caucasus.

Deines, James Arnold "Jim"

James Arnold Deines (born on September 26, 1962 in Springdale, Arkansas) is a former professional basketball player. He is listed at 6'9" and played forward/center for the Arizona State University Sun Devils. He was drafted in 1985 by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 4th round, but never got to play in the NBA.

Fischer, Helene

Helene Fischer, daughter of Peter & Maria Fischer, is a German pop singer and entertainer. She is the recipient of two Echo Awards and has many No. 1 hits on German and Austrian charts.

Helene was born 5 August 1984 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. Her grandparents had been deported in 1941 from the Volga German Republic.

She and her family immigrated to Germany in 1988 when she was 4, and settled in Wöllstein in Rhineland-Palatinate. She has an older sister, Erica.
