Kurnayevka (Kurnajewka in German) was orginally a Khutor (farmstead) that grew into a village. It was inhabited primarily by former state peasants, mostly Russians and Little Russians (from southwestern Russia). By 1910, there were 1,486 people living in Kurnayevka. There were also 5 German families that lived there.
Sauer, Conrad
Conrad Sauer, son of Nicolaus Sauer & Anna Maria Kindsvater, was born 7 June 1896 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
He was an ordained minister of the German Congregational Church and served parishes in Lincoln, Nebraska and Globeville, Colorado (First German Congregational Church).
Pastor Sauer was married to Mary Katherine Winter on 10 September 1916.
He died in Flint, Michigan, on 5 February 1960, and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheatridge, Colorado.
Pastor Sauer's Volga German ancestors come from the colonies of Norka and Huck.
Bethanien (North Caucasus)
Bethanien was founded in 1852. It is located just east of Pyatigorsk, and today is part of the metropolitan area of Pyatigorsk.
There were also Mennonites and colonists from Riebensdorf who settled in Bethanien.
The former German colony of Bethanien is known today as Konstantinovskaya.

Meierhenry, Judith
Judith Knittel, daughter of Adolph John Knittel & Anna Elizabeth Voos, was born 20 January 1944. She married Mark V. Meierhenry.
She received her Bachelor of Science in 1966, Master's in English in 1968, and Juris Doctor in 1977 - all from the University of South Dakota. She practiced law in Vermillion, South Dakota.
On 16 December 1988, South Dakota Governor George S. Mickelson appointed her to the Second Circuit Court, and she became the presiding judge in 1997.
Hipperdinger, Sergio Gabriel
Sergio Gabriel Hipperdinger was born 14 January 1992 in General San Martín (Buenos Aires City), Argentina.
He is a professional soccer player (attacker) and has played for the Argentine teams in Quilmes, Freamunde, Berazategui, and Concepción.
His Volga German ancestors come from the colony of Hölzel.
Eichhorn, Jacob
Jacob Eichhorn was born 6 February 1890 in the Volga German colony of Bauer.
He studied theology at the University of Dorpat (Estonia) and was ordained in Leipzig at the Church of St. Thomas in 1924.
From 1920 to 1923 he served with the Society of Volga Germans in Berlin and was involved in the relief efforts of the 1921 Famine.
In Berlin on 29 September 1923, he married Elisabeth Strauch who had been born in the Volga German colony of Beideck. They are the parents of 3 children: Dr. Jacob Eichhorn, Dr. Erwin Eichhorn, and Prof. Irma Eichhorn.
