Historically, Bernkastel was located in the Electorate of Trier (German: Kurtrier). Today, Bernkastel is administratively joined with its neighboring village into Bernkastel-Kues, about 35 kilometers northeast of the city of Trier. It's located on the Moselle River in the heart of the wine-growing district of Rheinland-Pfalz. It is a village also known for its Christmas Market.
