In the 1700s, Cleeberg was typically spelled with a "K" (Kleeberg). Before 1866, Cleeberg was part of the Duchy of Nassau, and after that part of the Prussian Province of Hesse-Nassau. In 1977, Cleeberg was administratively merged with nearby villages into the community of Langgöns.
