There are three Schmidt households on the 1767 census of the Volga German colony of Bangert. Each had arrived in Bangert on 1 July 1767.
(1) Johann Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard a barque named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper Johann Gottfried Selander.
They are recorded on the 1767 census of Bangert in Household No. 6.
(2) Peter Schmidt, a farmer, his wife Anna, and son Johann (age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard a barque named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper Johann Gottfried Selander.
They are recorded on the 1767 census of Bangert in Household No. 10.
(3) Nikolaus Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard a barque named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper Johann Gottfried Selander.
Widow Katharina Schmidt arrived on the transport of Lieutenant Dunkler and is recorded on the 1767 census of Bangert in Household No. 30. She is presumed to be the widow of Nikolaus Schmidt since they were all arrived together in Oranienbaum.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that all three of these Schmidt families came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that all three of these families came from the German village of Wetterau near Kleeberg in the Darmstadt region.
