Niedergründau, Kr. Main-Kinzig, Hessen

Church:

Schieferbergstraße 33
63584 Gründau

The church in Niedergründau is called the Bergkirche because it is located on a hill. The church in Niedergründau, consecrated to St. Peter, is first documented in 1217.

The Reformation came to this area before 1549 under the leadership of Pastor Nikolaus Müller. For a while the parish was following the Lutheran faith practice, but returned to the Reformed confession.

The current tower was rebuilt in Gothic style  in 1556-67. Following the Thirty Years' War, the building was rehabilitated in 1651. The building fell into disrepair, but was eventually rebuilt in the classicist style and dedicated on 8 November 1840. The core of the building remained from the Romanesque period. The church was extensively renovated between 1996 and 1999.

The organ in the Bergkirche was built by Georg Franz Ratzmann in 1839. It was restored in 2008 by Waltershausen Orgelbau. It has 2 registers plus pedal.
