Steinheim was formerly known as Steinheim am Main which was originally made up of the two villages of Groß-Steinheim and Klein-Steinheim.
Today is a suburb of the city of Hanau and known as Hanau-Steinheim. From 1624 to 1803, Steinheim was part of the Electorate of Mainz (German: Kurmainz).
