Two Bartel families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.
(1) Jochim Andreas Bartel, son of Johann Bartel & Maria Sophia Schröder, was baptized on 28 April 1766 in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lübeck.
Johann Bartel, a farmer, his wife Maria, and son Joachim (age 1¼) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Joh. Barthel [sic], his wife Sophia, and son Joh. Andreas (age 1) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Boisroux on 7 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 23.
In 1794, Erdmann Bartel moved from Boisroux to Orlovskaya.
(2) Michael Bartel, a farmer, and his wife Maria arrived in Oranienbaum.
Michael Bartel and his wife Mar. Elisabet. are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both of them died in route.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Johann Bartel came from the German region of Zerbst.
