Discussion & Documentation:

Matthias Bauer, a single farmer, and his mother Magdalena arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard the galliot Der Jan under the command of the skipper Markus Dragun.

Mathias Bauer and his mother Magdalena are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Magdalena died enroute.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 19 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 126.

The 1767 census records that Matthias Bauer came from the village of Neuburg in the Kurpfalz region.
