Historically, Neuburg an der Donau (Neuburg on the Donau River) was the capital of the Duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg (German: Herzogtum Pfalz-Neuburg). It was the seat of the Elector of the Pfalz. The Duchy was abolished in 1808, and in 1837 became part of Swaben (Swabia). Today, Neuburg is located in the German State of Bayern (Bavaria).
