The 1767 census records that Johann Mattias Baumgardt came from the German village of Neu-Münster in the Holstein region.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that this Mattias Baumgardt came from the region of Regensburg.]
There are no known surviving male lines of this Baumgardt family among the Volga German colonies.
