Johann Heinrich Ernst Beckmann, a merchant (Kaufmann), and his wife Anna Regina settled in the Volga German colony of Merkel on 28 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 where Johann Heinrich is recorded as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher).
The 1767 census records that Johann Heinrich Ernst Beckmann came from the German region of Magdeburg.
There are no known male descendants of this family that continue among the Volga German colonies.
