Sebastian Bertsch, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and children (Johannes, age 17; Jakob, age 15; Anna Katharina, age 10; Anna Maria, age 6; Agatha, age 3) are recorded on the 1767 census of Chasselois in Household No. 5. They had arrived in Chasselois on 2 August 1766.

Following the destruction of Chasselois, the Bertsch family relocated to the colony of Louis.

In 1788, Jakob Bertsch and his family moved from Louis to Mariental.

The widow of Jakob Bertsch and her children are recorded on the 1798 census of Mariental in Household No. Mt18.

Sebastian Bertsch from Chasselois and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Mariental in Household No. Mt31.

The death of Sebastian Bertsch in 1825 is recorded on the 1834 census of Mariental in Household No. 54.

The 1767 census records that Sebastian Bertsch came from the German village of Saarburg in the Trier region.
