Discussion & Documentation

Joh. Georg Blitz & Eliesabetha [sic] Michel were married on 9 March 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen.

Johann [Georg] Blitz, a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the galliot Die Fortuna under the command of Skipper Peter Stahl.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 18 June 1767. Georg Blitz is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 72 along with his [new] wife Maria Charlotta [Faust, daughter of Johann Peter & Anna Faust. She had been born 4 December 1746 in Roth].

Georg Blitz and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz030.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Blitz came from the German region of Pfalz. The 1767 census records that Georg Blitz came from the German region of Kurpfalz.
