Johann Michael Bork and his son Jakob Rudolf (age 5½) settled in the Volga German colony of Schilling where they are recorded on the supplement to the 1775 census in Household No. 5. Notes accompanying the 1775 census record that Bork was a maker of lace and braids, but because of this "great weight" is in poor health.

In 1788, Jakob Bork moved from Schilling to Mariental.
