Johann Bott, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Magdalena, and daughter Anna Elisabeth (age 3-weeks) are recorded on the 1767 census of Urbach in Household No. 36. They had settled there on 3 July 1767.

The 1767 census records that Johann Bott came from the German village of Steffin in Brandenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
