There are 2 Braun families that settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm who are assumed to be related because each one ended up with one of the surviving children of Michael Rausch & Anna Margaretha Braun.
(1) Andreas Braun and his wife Dorothea had three children whose births are recorded in the Family Register of Wehrda: (1) Georg Friedrich, born 29 October 1759 (died 20 March 1763); (2) Johannes, born 1 December 1762; and (3) Joh. Peter, born 19 May 1765.
Andreas Braun, his wife, and the two surviving sons arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 8 along with orphan Anna Barbara Rausch, daughter of Michael Rausch & Anna Margaretha Braun. The 1767 census does not record an exact relationship between the Braun and Rausch families.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Braun was a cobbler while the 1767 census records that he was a craftsman (Handwerker). Both documents record that Andreas Braun came from the German village of Wehrda.
(2) Johannes Braun, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 10 along with the orphan Johann Adam Rausch, the son of Michael Rausch & Anna Margaretha Braun. The 1767 census does not record an exact connection between the Braun and Rausch families.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Braun came from the German region of Gerz [possibly an abbreviation of Hersfeld, the district in which Wehrda is located].
