Johann Heinrich Brendel, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Die Neue Freiheit von Bremen under the command of Skipper Steingrawer.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 23.

The 1767 census records that [Johann] Heinrich Brendel came from the German village of Burkersdorf in the Bayreuth region.
