Diehl (Kaneau)
Burghard Diehl, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and son Konrad (age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Berhard Diel [sic], his wife Maria Elisabeth, and son Johann Conrad (age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 23 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Househld No. 79.
Son Konrad is recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl68.
Philipp Diehl from Kaneau is recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl43.
Peter Diehl from Kaneau is recorded on the 1798 census of Biberstein in Household No. Bb35.
Heinrich Diehl from Kaneau is recorded on the 1798 census of Schaffhausen in Household No. Sh43.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Burghard Diehl came from the German region of Nassau. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Wendelfeld [?] in the Nassau region.
