Discussion & Documentation

Christian Dudhort [sic], his Margaretha, and sons (Georg, age 17¾; Hans, age 13) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.

Christian Diethorn, his wife Margaretha, and sons (Johann Gregorius, age 16; Georg, age 13) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Margaretha died in route.

Christian Diethorn, his [new] wife Katharina, and son Hans Georg (age 15) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Beauregard in Household No. 34 along with his stepson Friedrich König (age 3). [See König Family.]

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The 1767 census records that Christian Diethorn came from the German region of Bamberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Diethorn family among the Volga German colonies.
