Jakob Dorzweiler, a single cobbler (Schuhmacher), settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 27 August 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 203.
Jakob Dorzweiler, his wife Maria née Bender, and daughter Margaretha (age ¼) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 161 along with a note recording the birth of son Johann Melchior in 1778. [See Bender Family.]
The 1767 census records that Jakob Dorzweiler came from the German village of Windheim in the Franken (Franconia) region.
