Johann Friedrich Eckhardt, a farmer, and his unnamed father settled in the Volga German colony of Reinhard on 13 March 1766.

His father died after arrival in Reinhard. Johann Friedrich is recorded on the 1767 census of Reinhard in Household No. 33.

The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Eckhardt came from the Danish village of Ostenau.
