Discussion & Documentation

Elias Engelbert [sic], a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Hermann Anderson.

Johann Adam [sic] Engelbrecht (desert.) [deserter] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 29 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 68 along with his new wife Katharina.

The 1767 census records that Elias Engelbrecht [sic] came from the German region of Hessen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Engelbrecht family among the Volga German colonies.
