Johannes Engwald, a farmer, his wife Maria Elisabeth, and daughter Katharina (age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schwab in Household No. 29. They had settled there on 12 September 1767.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Engwald came from the German village of Aldenburg [Waldenburg?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
